In this video, The Lallantop's Kuldeep Mishra explained about the corporate culture and condition of employees in the industry. Sambo mentality refers to a mindset where an individual or a group remains submissive or loyal to a system, authority, or institution, despite being subjected to mistreatment, exploitation, or inequality. The term "sambo" has historical roots, particularly in the context of slavery and colonialism, where enslaved individuals would adopt behaviors that appeased their oppressors in an attempt to secure some semblance of survival or advantage. In a modern context, "sambo mentality" often describes situations where employees or followers remain loyal to a toxic or exploitative corporate culture, political regime, or societal structure, despite the negative consequences it has on their well-being or freedom. This mentality stems from a combination of fear, dependency, or a false sense of gratitude toward the system that has power over them, often leading to the perpetuation of their own subjugation. Stockholm Syndrome is a psychological phenomenon in which hostages develop positive feelings, empathy, or even loyalty toward their captors, sometimes to the point of defending or siding with them. This seemingly irrational bond often occurs in situations where the captive perceives a threat to their life and, as a survival mechanism, begins to identify with the captor in an attempt to gain favor or avoid harm. The syndrome was first named after a 1973 bank robbery in Stockholm, Sweden, where hostages were held for six days and reportedly formed sympathetic bonds with their captors. While it is not fully understood why some individuals develop Stockholm Syndrome, it is thought to result from a combination of isolation, perceived kindness, and fear, as well as the emotional stress of the situation. In extreme cases, the syndrome can persist even after the person is freed from captivity. Corporate Stockholm Syndrome refers to a psychological phenomenon where employees develop a bond or attachment to their employer, despite facing mistreatment or unhealthy working conditions. Similar to the way hostages may develop empathy or loyalty toward their captors, individuals in toxic work environments may begin to rationalize or even defend the behaviors of their employer, often due to fear, dependency, or a lack of perceived alternatives. This attachment can manifest in various ways, such as defending unreasonable demands, enduring burnout or exploitation, and remaining in unhealthy job situations because of a belief that the employer is "doing them a favor." Over time, the employee may internalize the company's values or beliefs, even when it goes against their personal well-being. This psychological response can be exacerbated by factors such as job insecurity, lack of career growth, and toxic corporate cultures, ultimately hindering employees from recognizing or challenging their own exploitation.
