The BJP won six seats, while the Samajwadi Party secured five, making the results significant for both parties as they assess their political strength before the next major electoral contest. In Lucknow, BJP candidate Umesh Dwivedi won the teachers’ constituency for the third consecutive time, while SP candidate Kanti Singh maintained a substantial lead in the graduate constituency as counting progressed. BJP candidates also retained the Bareilly-Moradabad teachers’ and Meerut-Saharanpur seats. Meanwhile, the Samajwadi Party registered important victories in Agra, Varanasi and the Allahabad-Jhansi graduate constituency. Agra emerged as one of the most controversial counting centres, with SP candidate Dr Aakash Agrawal and BJP candidate Harikishore Tiwari accusing each other’s supporters of assault amid a heated dispute. Akhilesh Yadav raised questions about the incident and alleged unfair treatment of his party’s candidates. In Gorakhpur-Faizabad, BJP candidate Dhruv Kumar Tripathi won the teachers’ seat by just 307 votes against independent candidate Rajiv Yadav, who alleged vote irregularities and said he would approach the Election Commission and the court. The bulletin also examines allegations of irregularities during counting in Varanasi, disputes over ballot-box seals, complaints about access to counting centres and the Election Commission’s decision to replace the Gorakhpur-Faizabad election observer before counting. Deputy Chief Minister Keshav Prasad Maurya expressed disappointment that the BJP did not win every seat, while Akhilesh Yadav claimed the results exposed the ruling party’s weaknesses and alleged administrative interference. With allegations of electoral malpractice continuing alongside the results, what do these 11 seats tell us about the political mood in Uttar Pradesh? Watch the full report for constituency-wise results, reactions from political leaders and the emerging contest ahead of the 2027 UP Assembly elections. Produced by: Shubham Edited by: Dinesh
