Let’s look at the facts: 2023, 2024, and 2025 were the hottest years in 175 years of record-keeping. And 2026 is on track to break them all. According to the UNEP, by 2030, developing countries will need $387 billion every year to deal with climate damages. That is less than 15% of what the world spent on military budgets in 2024. Yet, in every COP climate conference, the environmental cost of war is ignored. We talk about coal, oil, cars, and plastic—and yes, they matter. But a single day of bombing can release hundreds of thousands of tons of carbon. Entire cities are set on fire. Infrastructure is destroyed. Forests burn. And the emissions? They are never counted. Israel alone has conducted strikes in at least six countries in just one year. Meanwhile, the US has stepped back from its climate promises. The result? Winters are choked with pollution. Summers are unbearable heatwaves. Your health, your wallet, your air, everything is impacted. You might feel that wars are far away. That a missile falling in another country doesn’t touch you.
