Shuddhikaran, FIR and the law: What is the truth?

In Indian law is it a crime to conduct a shuddhikaran at the site where a Dalit leader has just held a rally? Is the filing of an FIR both required and necessary? Can the organizers of the shuddhikaran really claim they were only responding to slogans they deemed inappropriate and not Mallikarjun Kharge? And what about the FIR against Rahul Gandhi accusing him of promoting enmity and outraging religious feelings? Is that justified? Or ludicrous? Finally, what does all of this tell us about the Uttarakhand government’s attitude to crimes against Dalits and the way it enforces the law which it’s sworn to uphold? Those are the issues I shall raise in a live interview today, Wednesday the 2nd September, at 5.00 p.m. with Congress Rajya Sabha MP, Chief Spokesperson and Supreme Court Lawyer, Abhishek Singhvi.
