Phag, Holi ke geet by artists form the Kalbelia community - Tunginath ji ShantiBai, Ishwar Nath, Hemnath, Manthara, Nenu and Meero " Among us today are artists from a very special community, the Kalbeliya community. The Kalbeliyas are also known as Saperas, Jogis and Naags. Traditionally, they were snake charmers, catching snakes and performing with them as a form of livelihood and public entertainment. They also crafted and sold grinding stones used for milling grain. However, with changing government policies and shifts in the social landscape, their traditional occupations were eroded, and they were compelled to find new ways of surviving. Today, the Kalbeliya community is renowned for its dance. Many of you would have seen the Kalbeliya dance. It is celebrated not only across Rajasthan, but around the world. Their singing traditions, too, are deeply admired. Joining us from Neemla village in Shiv tehsil of Barmer district are Tunginath ji, Hemnath ji, Shanti ji, Manthara ji, Sangeeta ji, Jassu and Ishwarnath ji. As you all know, this is the season of Holi, the month of Phagan. In Rajasthan, Phagan is a very special time of year, and for this community, it holds even deeper significance.
