The JPSC examination controversy has triggered widespread anger among civil services aspirants across Jharkhand. The Jharkhand Public Service Commission postponed the JPSC Mains examination and eight other recruitment examinations following allegations of irregularities in the 14th Combined Civil Services Preliminary Examination 2026. The controversy began after the JPSC prelims result was declared on July 2, 2026. A total of 2,204 candidates were reportedly shortlisted for 103 posts. However, several aspirants questioned the transparency of the selection process, alleging that category-wise cut-off marks, individual scores and OMR sheets were not released. Some candidates also claimed that the merit list did not carry the signatures of the commission’s constitutional members. As protests intensified in Ranchi, Hazaribagh and other parts of Jharkhand, the state government handed over the investigation to the CID. Investigators conducted raids at the JPSC office, seized computers, digital records, merit-related documents and other examination material, and questioned several officials and people associated with the examination process. Former JPSC chairman L. Khiangte and employees of the agency responsible for conducting the examinations also came under scrutiny. The investigation has also focused on TSR Data Processing Private Limited, the company reportedly assigned responsibility for conducting several major recruitment examinations. The company and its officials are facing allegations related to examination management, data processing and financial irregularities. The CID’s Special Investigation Team is examining documents, digital devices, hotel records, CCTV footage and possible links between company representatives and commission officials. Following the controversy, nine recruitment examinations—including the Combined Civil Services Mains, Civil Judge Junior Division examination, Assistant Public Prosecutor examinations, Factory Inspector examination, Project Manager examination and Boiler Inspector examination—were postponed until further notice. JPSC aspirants are demanding cancellation of the disputed preliminary examination result, publication of OMR sheets and cut-off marks, disclosure of candidates’ scores, an independent investigation and a fresh, transparent examination. Opposition parties have demanded a CBI investigation, while the Jharkhand government has maintained that the CID is investigating the case and strict action will be taken against those found responsible.
