There are long queues for LPG cylinders everywhere. In many cities, restaurants have started shutting down due to the non-availability of commercial cylinders. The livelihoods of street vendors have been ruined. Many small businesses are looking at closures. What happened to the idea of a strong and developed India? Where is the promise of ‘Sabka Sath, Sabka Vikas and security for all? On the global stage today, India appears not only isolated but also weak. Despite being the fifth-largest economy and having such a vast demographic dividend, how have we reached such a state? Today, we are being forced to seek permission for buying our own oil and gas. We should have transitioned from oil to renewable energy by now. We should have become number one in manufacturing. We were supposed to create 2 crore jobs every year. We were supposed to automate all work with AI. Yet, here, a single war has exposed our vulnerabilities. It seems all the grand promises have been confined to patriotic Bollywood films. In 2014, the Modi government inherited a booming economy, cheap fuel prices, and crores of young people ready to work. But in the last 12 years, instead of developing them, we seem to have lost our competitive edge? What actually happened?
